Talking points: Entre-Deux-Mers (pronounced “Ahn-Truh-Duh Merr”) is the largest sub-district in Bordeaux. The literal translation of Entre-Duex-Mers is Between-Two-Seas and actually refers to the fact that this wine growing region sits between two major rivers, the Garonne on the left and Dordogne on the right. The Entre-Deux-Mers AC applies only to white wines made from Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Muscadelle. Most of the vineyards are located on limestone dominated plateaus and hills with an abundance of flint imparting a pleasant mineral characteristic into many of the wines. The white wines produced here are dry and crisp with citrus notes and hints of grassiness. This particular property, Chateau Bellevue, is owned by the prestigious d’Amecourt family.
