Talking points: Francoise and Philippe Lannoye, owners of Chateau Ambe Tour Pourret, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru; Chateau Lanbersac, Puisseguin Saint-Emilion; and Chateau Lamour, Cotes de Castillon and Chateau Moulin de Clotte. The winemaker is Francois Despagne. The owners’ and winemakers’ intent is to produce wines that “express the soul of their terroir”. Chateau Lanbersac was the first chapter in the owners’ wine adventure. The estate is 55 acres and located on limestone and clay soils. The appellation Puisseguin Saint-Emilion is known for delivering high quality wines at relative bargain prices compared to its neighbor Saint-Emilion. The blend is 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc from vines averaging 35 years of age.

Tasting notes: The wine shows bright fruit and well integrated tannins. Amazingly complex for a wine at this price point, it shows not only typical Bordeaux-like black and red fruit characters but also notes of spice and truffles.

Serving suggestions: This is an excellent food wine that pairs well with grilled red meats.
